Muckin vs QX Accounting Services

QX sells managed FTEs from India with a four-eyed review. Muckin sells monthly seats from its own Pretoria office with UK sign-off. Side by side.

Described from public websites, August 2026No prices invented
  • QX is a large, long-established India-delivered outsourcer with a managed FTE model, a four-eyed review and onshore support in Skipton and London.
  • Muckin is a permanent named team in our own Pretoria office, sold as monthly seats, reviewed and signed off in the UK, rolling monthly.
  • QX does not publish seat prices on its service pages; Muckin publishes every seat price on /pricing/.
  • If you want scale, audit support and a 22-year track record, QX is a serious option. If you want a small, named team you can walk away from on a month's notice, that is us.

We've described QX Accounting Services from its own public website as of August 2026; if anything here is out of date, tell us and we'll fix it.

What QX Accounting Services says it does

QX Accounting Services is part of the QX Global Group. Its UK site lists accounting outsourcing, year-end accounts, bookkeeping, payroll, management accounts, audit support, tax work (personal tax, corporation tax, VAT, R&D) and virtual admin support for accountancy practices. It says it has "22 years of expertise", "1,100+ dedicated accountants" and "five delivery centers in India", with "onshore support through Skipton and London".

On model, QX describes "flexible engagement models with dedicated experts and a managed approach". Its payroll page names two: a per-payslip model and an FTE model where "a dedicated full-time or part-time employee" works only on your work. Its blog describes a Managed FTE solution, an onshore support solution and a broader practice outsourcing solution. On quality it promises a "four-eyed review of all outsourced accounting work before it reaches you". It lists ISO 27001, ISO 9001 and GDPR compliance.

On price, the service and pricing pages ask you to request a quote. One QX blog post gives a rough FTE range, but that is a guide article, not a price list, so we treat QX as quote-only. We could not find a stated minimum term on the site. QX lists marketing work on its group site for accounting firms; content for your own practice is not listed as part of the accounting outsourcing service. Their site: qxaccounting.com/uk.

What Muckin does

We do one thing: a permanent production team for your practice, sold as monthly seats. A Production seat covers bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, onboarding and admin, and any content you want written. An Accounts seat covers year-end accounts, CT600s, self assessment and management accounts. A Senior seat is a qualified accountant who can run a portfolio.

The people are employees in our own office in Pretoria, South Africa. No subcontractors, no home-working pool. Pretoria is one to two hours ahead of the UK all year, so they are at their desks when you are. They work inside your own software under their own logins, white-label by default. Every job is reviewed and signed off in the UK before it reaches you, and you remain the signatory on everything that goes out to a client or HMRC. Full detail is on /how-it-works/.

Content is not a separate product and has no separate price. Guides, newsletters, site updates and social posts are done in Production-seat hours, the same as a VAT return. See /what-we-do/marketing/.

Who should pick which

Pick QX if you are a mid-sized or larger practice that needs audit support, a big bench to flex into during January, or an onshore manager in the UK as part of the package. They have been doing this for two decades and have the scale to absorb a lot of work quickly. If you want one supplier for tax, audit, payroll and admin across several offices, QX's breadth is a genuine advantage.

Pick Muckin if you are a one-to-ten-partner practice that wants the same two or three named people every day, wants to know the price before the first call, and does not want a contract. We are small on purpose. We will not be the right answer if you need audit fieldwork, fifty seats by Christmas, or someone in a UK office you can visit. We will be the right answer if you want a half-seat of bookkeeping and a half-seat of accounts, with a UK reviewer checking everything, for a price you can read on a web page.

One more difference worth being honest about. QX's four-eyed review sits inside its delivery team. Our review sits in the UK, with a UK accountant, and we do not send you anything until it has passed. That costs us more and is part of why an Accounts seat is priced the way it is.

Where to start

Run your numbers through the capacity calculator, check the seat prices on /pricing/, and if it looks right, get in touch. No pitch deck, just a conversation about the work you actually have.

Questions

Straight answers.

Does QX publish its prices?

Not on its service pages as of August 2026. A QX blog post gives a rough FTE range, but you have to ask for a quote. Muckin publishes every seat price on /pricing/.

Where does each team sit?

QX says it has five delivery centres in India with onshore support in Skipton and London. Muckin's team is in our own office in Pretoria, South Africa, one to two hours ahead of the UK.

Is there a minimum term with either?

QX's site does not state one, so we say not published. Muckin is rolling monthly with one month's notice and no lock-in.
