Muckin vs Corient

Corient runs a 600-strong team from Mumbai and Jaipur and sells marketing too. Muckin sells monthly seats from Pretoria with UK sign-off.

Described from public websites, August 2026No prices invented
  • Corient is a Coventry-registered outsourcer with delivery offices in Mumbai and Jaipur, a team it puts at 600+, and a wide menu from bookkeeping to audit support, R&D claims and digital marketing.
  • Muckin is a small, named team in our own Pretoria office, sold as monthly seats, reviewed and signed off in the UK, rolling monthly.
  • Corient offers pricing calculators and a free estimate but does not publish rates; Muckin publishes every seat price on /pricing/.
  • Corient says work is "reviewed by a qualified accountant"; it does not say where that reviewer sits.

We've described Corient from its own public website as of August 2026; if anything here is out of date, tell us and we'll fix it.

What Corient says it does

Corient Business Solutions started, by its own account, with "four people. Two offices, Mumbai and Coventry" around 2011–2012 and now describes "14+ years of consistent delivery" with "580+" to "600+ expert accountants" and "200+ UK firms" served. Its services for practices include bookkeeping, payroll, year-end accounts, management accounts, MTD, audit support, VAT, corporation tax and self-assessment, plus back-office support, IT, data analytics, capital allowances, R&D tax credits and "Digital Marketing Services" described as "practice focused marketing support for growth and visibility".

On model it talks about a "dedicated team" and an account manager, without setting out per-job, hourly or FTE structures on the pages we read. Pricing is by calculator and "Free Estimate", with "no guesswork, No obligation"; actual rates are not shown. We could not find a stated minimum term. On quality it says work is "reviewed by a qualified accountant" and that "accountants remain fully in control" of its AI-assisted processes. It lists ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials and GDPR compliance and an ACCA and ICAI qualified team. Their site: corientbs.co.uk.

What Muckin does

We are a production team, not a menu. You take seats: Production (bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, admin and content), Accounts (year-end, CT600, self assessment, management accounts) or Senior (a qualified accountant from £3,400 a month). The people are our employees in our own Pretoria office. They work in your software under their own logins and you keep the client relationship. How the handover and the daily rhythm work is on /how-it-works/.

Two things we think are worth paying for. First, review: every job is checked and signed off in the UK before you see it, and you remain the signatory. Second, no contract: seats are rolling monthly with one month's notice. Content, which Corient sells as a marketing service, we do inside Production-seat hours. There is no separate content price. See /what-we-do/marketing/.

Who should pick which

Pick Corient if you want one supplier for a lot of things. Audit support, R&D claims, capital allowances, IT and marketing under one account manager is a real convenience for a practice that has outgrown juggling suppliers, and a 600-person bench can absorb a sudden pile of work that three people cannot. If you need help with R&D or capital allowances specifically, we do not do that work at all.

Pick Muckin if you want fewer moving parts. A named bookkeeper and a named accounts preparer who do your work every month, a UK reviewer who checks it, and a price you read off a page. We are deliberately narrow: compliance production, back-office admin and content. We will not pretend to be a full-service outsourcer, and if you want that, Corient is a better fit.

On content, be clear about what you are buying. Corient's marketing service is a separate engagement. Ours is the same Production-seat hours you already pay for, used to write a monthly guide or update your website when the bookkeeping is done. It is cheaper, and also less: we are not an agency.
