Outbooks offers FTE, hourly, fixed-fee and managed models from India. Muckin sells monthly seats from its own Pretoria office with UK sign-off.
We've described Outbooks from its own public website as of August 2026; if anything here is out of date, tell us and we'll fix it.
Outbooks is an accounting and bookkeeping outsourcer with a UK company registered in Harrow and offices it lists in the UK, Ireland, Australia, the US, Malta and India. It describes itself as "a leading offshore accounting and bookkeeping firm in the UK" and says its team of "over 500 skilled accountants and bookkeepers" handles bookkeeping, self-assessment, year-end accounts and CT returns, company secretarial, management accounts, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, audit support and ESG reporting.
Its engagement models page is unusually clear. Staff Augmentation (FTE) gives you "a dedicated remote professional who works exclusively for your firm", working UK hours with 24 days' leave and a replacement option. PAYG / Ad Hoc is hourly with weekly timesheets and a "minimum contract length" of one month. Managed Service is a back-office team where "pricing structured as a fixed fee, either as a percentage of Gross Recurring Fees (GRF) or a set monthly amount". For businesses there is also a Fixed Fee Per Month option. It advertises a "10 Hours Free trial" and "Save over 50% on costs".
Prices themselves are not published; the site offers pricing calculators and a callback. It cites BSI accreditation, ISO 27001:2022 and GDPR compliance. On review, the site talks about "Reports with well defined SLA & KPIs" and a dedicated account manager, but we could not find a statement about who reviews or signs off work before it reaches you. Content marketing for your practice is not listed. Their site: outbooks.co.uk.
We sell seats, not models. A seat is a named person, full time, half time or part time, who is yours every month. Production seats do bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, onboarding and admin. Accounts seats do year-end, CT600, self assessment and management accounts. A Senior seat is a qualified accountant. All of them sit in our own office in Pretoria, employed by us, working in your software under their own logins. See /what-we-do/back-office/ and /what-we-do/accounts-production/.
Every job is reviewed and signed off in the UK before it reaches you. You stay the signatory. There is no percentage-of-fees model and no hourly rate: the price is the seat, and the seat prices are public. Content work, when you want it, fills Production-seat hours rather than being a separate line.

Pick Outbooks if you want choice of model. Some practices genuinely want an hourly tap they can turn on in January and off in March, and Outbooks sells that with a one-month minimum and a free trial. If you would rather hand the whole compliance back office over for a fixed percentage of your fee income, Outbooks offers that too, and we do not. Their breadth of services, including company secretarial and ESG, is wider than ours.
Pick Muckin if the thing you are tired of is the variable. An hourly model means a different person and a different invoice every month. A seat means the same person, who learns your clients, your software and your quirks, at a price that does not move. We think that matters more than flexibility for a practice with steady recurring work, and we have priced the seats so you can see exactly what a year costs: a full Production seat is £23,400 against £36–44k all-in for a UK hire, on our working rule of thumb of salary times 1.35.
If your workload is lumpy and seasonal, Outbooks' hourly model may cost you less. If it is steady, a seat will.
Put your recurring jobs into the capacity calculator to see how many seat-hours you actually need, compare with /pricing/, then talk to us.
Its site lists dedicated FTE staff augmentation, hourly pay-as-you-go, fixed fee per month, and a managed back-office service priced as a fixed fee or a percentage of gross recurring fees. Muckin has one model: monthly seats.
Its hourly PAYG model states a one-month minimum. We could not find a stated minimum for its other models. Muckin is rolling monthly on every seat.
Outbooks talks about SLAs, KPIs and an account manager but does not publish who signs off work before it reaches you. At Muckin every job is reviewed and signed off in the UK first, and you remain the signatory.
